Reflecting is an important part of the student life, during my 3 years of university I have written multiple reflections that have help me further develop my analytical skills.
There are multiple tools that can help us reflect, we can use for instance the six hats. So with this tool we ask six questions that help further develop the subject.
For example if I were to reflect on my Organic Production class the six hat method would go like this:
What are you learning?
The course is focus on exploring what makes a crop organic from the soil used, crop rotation up to the marketing or organic produce and fair trade.
Why are you learning this?
As a Food Technologist is important for me to understand the supply chain and as a consumer is my duty to be aware of the origins of my food.
How are you going to achieve this learning?
I will achieve this learning by attending the course, doing the homework and my own project by doing online and literature research on organic products.
What did you do well in your learning?
For now I have attended my classes and asked questions to the lecturer when something is not completely clear.
What do you think you need to work on?
I need to work on the after class research for my project, I have not started it and this will take time and effort if I want a good grade.
What do I need to do NOW to improve my learning?
Well for now I can do research on the marketing of organic products as well as continuing to what the docu series Roten on Netflix that discusses food frauds.
Overall this tool can help students that have no prior experience with reflections since it provides easy guidelines to follow.
